Express Entry step 1
Start by checking whether you may qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program or Canadian Experience Class. Each program has its own work experience, language and education rules.
Express Entry step 2
Arrange an Educational Credential Assessment when required, take an approved English or French language test, and collect passports, work records, reference letters and settlement-fund evidence.
Express Entry step 3
Enter accurate personal, education, work history, language and family information in the IRCC portal. Your profile should remain consistent with the evidence you may later submit.
Express Entry step 4
The Comprehensive Ranking System awards points for factors such as age, education, skilled work experience and language ability. Additional factors may include a provincial nomination and other recognized credentials.
Express Entry step 5
An eligible, complete profile enters the pool and is ranked against other candidates. Keep every detail current, including new test results, work experience and changes in family circumstances.
Express Entry step 6
IRCC issues invitations in invitation rounds using the criteria announced for each round. An Invitation to Apply starts a limited period in which to submit a complete permanent residence application.
Express Entry step 7
Complete the personalized application, upload the supporting documents requested in your checklist and pay the applicable government fees before the deadline shown in your account.
Express Entry step 8
Monitor your IRCC account for messages and requests. IRCC may ask for biometrics, a medical examination, police certificates or additional information before making a final decision.
Express Entry step 9
If approved, follow the instructions in your Confirmation of Permanent Residence or electronic confirmation. Present the required travel and immigration documents when you enter Canada.

After arrival, arrange essential services, look for work, have credentials recognized where necessary and connect with settlement resources in your community.
